Mauricio Eça is a Brazilian director, screenwriter, and producer, widely regarded as one of the country’s leading names in music video direction. A graduate in Film from FAAP, he has directed over 200 music videos for major artists such as Maná, Pitty, Frejat, CPM22, Manu Gavassi, Marcelo D2, Projota, and Racionais MC’s. He also made a name for himself in television commercials. His film career began in 2004 with the documentary Universo Paralelo. In 2014, he wrote, produced, and directed the feature film Apneia, which won the World Cinema Directing Award at the Amsterdam Film Festival in 2015. Between 2015 and 2016, Eça explored children’s cinema with two films from the Carrossel franchise, both box office hits with over 5 million tickets sold and winners of the Grande Prêmio do Cinema Brasileiro. In 2020, he directed A Garota Invisível, a teen romantic comedy that further showcased his versatility. In 2021, he tackled the complex true crime story of Suzane von Richthofen with three distinct films: The Girl Who Killed Her Parents, The Boy Who Killed My Parents, and The Confession. Most recently, his film Monica Teen: Reflections of Fear, based on the work of renowned cartoonist Mauricio de Sousa, won the 2024 Grande Otelo Award for Best Children’s Film. The Park Maniac, released on Prime Video in 2024, marks his twelfth feature film.
