Verônica Honorato is a screenwriter based in São Paulo, Brazil. She holds a degree in Radio and Television from Anhembi Morumbi University and a postgraduate specialization in comedy writing. During the first decade of her career, she worked as an editor, motion designer, and director of photography on short films and studio productions. She later transitioned to screenwriting, contributing to projects such as “Sintonia”, “7 Chances Para”, “Use Sua Voz”, “Turma da Mônica – Origens”, “Queimamufa”, “Chocolix”, and “TurmaTube”, focusing mainly on comedy, musicals, and youth-oriented storytelling. Verônica also teaches screenwriting at Roteiraria, one of Brazil’s leading script schools. Her main creative interests include comedy, romance, musical, drama, adventure, and fantasy genres, as well as animation and children’s/teen content—elements that strongly influence her research and artistic approach. In 2025, she won the ABRA Award for Best Children’s Screenplay for “Turma da Mônica – Origens”, released on Globoplay, which was also nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay. In 2023, “Use Sua Voz” was nominated for Best Musical Series at the PRODU Awards.
EDUCATION
Verônica holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Communication – Radio and Television from Anhembi Morumbi University (São Paulo, 2010–2014). She is fluent in English and has advanced proficiency in Spanish. Her training is complemented by several distinguished courses and labs, including the Practical Playwriting Workshop: From Monologue to Musical with Renata Mizrahi; the “Segundo Ato” Lab – Netflix Screenwriting Acceleration Program for Black and Indigenous Writers (2023–2024), which included mentorship sessions and the development of a feature film; and the Complete Comedy Writing Program, taught by leading professionals from the industry. She has also participated in workshops such as Fiction Screenwriting, Feature Screenplay Writing (SPCine and Paradiso Multiplica), Comedy with Tatá Lopes, and Writing for Television with Shonda Rhimes (Masterclass). Her continuous education also includes the Escola de Séries, the International Series Workshop, the Animation Lab: The Genesis of Black Animation, and the course “Cinema and Thought: Black Narratives”, offered by the Centro Afrocarioca de Cinema Zózimo Bulbul.
